AMG TEAMS WITH CIGARETTE RACING TO CREATE WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL ELECTRIC BOAT

Mercedes-Benz AMG division has teamed with the Cigarette Racing team to create the world's most powerful electric speed boat. Called the "Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept", the boat made its world debut earlier today at the Miami International Boat Show.

AMG has teamed with the Cigarette Racing team to co-develop three previous boats, but the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept is unique in that it actually uses an AMG-sourced powerplant. AMG's previous projects with Cigarette used marine-spec engines.

The Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept is fitted with not one, but two electric motors lifted straight from the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive, albeit with some added performance. Total output for the boat is 2,220 horsepower and 2,212 lb-ft of torque.

Those figures make the Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept the most powerful electric boat in the world, and, with just 38 feet to push around, the boat is also the world's fastest electrically-powered speed boat. Cigarette Racing says the concept can hit speeds in excess of 99mph.

The Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept uses the same type of lithium-ion batteries found in the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive, with its on-board charger adapted to fit the infrastructure standard of many American marinas. The Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept can be fully charged in as little as three hours using all four of the boat's four chargers, or in seven hours using just one.

In addition to its mechanical connection to the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive, the Cigarette boat also shares the car's outrageous "AMG Electricbeam magno" paint job.
